ARTIST STATEMENT

My sculptures often begin as little stories borrowed from daily life, a quirky character, a fleeting conversation or an odd observation that sparks an idea.

Each piece is built to be touched as much as seen. Surfaces are layered, textures are exaggerated, and every scuff is by design. I employ subliminal messaging through the use of denaturing and texturing surfaces carefully considering how tactile the final piece will feel.

I use humor as a way in. It lowers the guard, opens the door, and makes space for something heavier to follow. My work can hold levity and weight, joy and tension, all at once. Sometimes in the same piece. Sometimes in the same gesture.

Some pieces explore folklore, some mythology, while others explore parts of human experience. I am drawn to the strange, the layered, the thing that rewards a second look. There is always more underneath. That is the invitation.
