OUR STORY
aCrow and aCow
We are two self-directed artists, partners-in-everything bound by law, based in Jersey City. We make sculptural pieces that live in a world we call the Mimic Meadow.
We came to clay the way most good things happen ... life threw a lemon at us.
A throwing class ...
became a hand-building class ...
became a studio ...
became a world ...
became OUR world.
Our work sits at the intersection of illustration, sculpture, and storytelling. We enjoy the challenge of anthropomorphizing animals. We are drawn to folklore, the anatomy of flora and fauna, and fictionalizing their untold stories. The Mimic Meadow is our universe in which everything we imagine comes to life. The inhabitants carry stories, a view point, challenge assumptions and hold multiple perspectives. The pieces are tactile and meant to be held.
We like that ceramics is a democratic art form. We want our pieces to be collectible without being inaccessible. They earn a place in a home because of what they come to mean.
More about the artists
-
aCrowsFeet
Bio and portfolioA chef by trade, aCrow thinks about ceramics the way he thinks about food — with an eye for composition, texture, and the story behind the piece you're holding.
He is the one most likely to name a piece something that makes you laugh before it makes you think.

aCowsTail
Bio and portfolioaCow splits her time between two worlds: engineering and clay. One is rooted in logic, structure, and predictability. The other asks her to surrender control to curves, textures, and imperfection. One sharpens her discipline. The other delights in undoing it.
She is the one most likely to spend an extra hour on a glaze. Make that two.
